Year Three

Sometimes it’s hard to express how much My Closet in Sketches means to me without sounding redundant. There are so many tangible ways that this website has affected my life, but what’s more important to me – and what I find difficult to convey over the internets – is what it has done to my future, my past, my confidence, my soul, etc.

The creative center in me that burns with a desire to make something, all the time, is the same place that is stoked with joy every time a reader shares how I have inspired them. My goal is that My Closet in Sketches will always remain a place of imaginative freedom, of gettin’ down and dirty and doin’ shit just because something inside compelled me there.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here.

Take an abridged tour through these memorable outfits from the last three years:

Modern Redux

I wore a J.Crew boiled wool sweater, an H&M cotton peplum top, silk trousers pilfered from Grandma’s closet (previously featured here when I wore them on a date), my all-time-dig alligator clutch, also from Grandma (seen often on this here blog), suede heels found at TJMaxx, a mirrored necklace given to me by my friend Emily (which was featured in one of my very first posts), my SEE glasses, and Revlon lipstick in Kiss Me Coral.

And speaking of Grandma – my family and I are headed to the great state of Florida to visit the old bird. I’m taking a much needed Vitamin D bath.

The Corrections

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed there’s been a recent addition to my DC life – my brother, Alex, just moved to town. He’s basically the coolest and I love living with him.

As the creator of the successful website Diehard Sport and a single guy new to the big city, a sartorial transformation was needed to usher in this next chapter.

The key to our successful quest to the Georgetown shops was speed (Alex isn’t really the “shopping for pleasure” kind of guy), honesty (“Your pants are too big. Try on these.”), and focus (no swinging by the ladies section!).

Our haul included this sweatershirt, this hooded sweatshirt, and this sweater from H&M; a sweater similar to this from Banana Republic; Levi’s 511′sdouble snap shirts, and this thermal; these Creative Recreation kicks that I want in my size; and the Clark’s Original Desert Boot in brown leather.

Alex picked up The Corrections while browsing at Kramer Books a few nights before our jaunt – I’d say the novel has really inspired him to step up his game, no?

New School

Besides the all-important jersey? I FINALLY found the short version of this skirt while browsing at Secondi this summer – it was originally from H&M (SCORE). And of course, the ever present denim jacket and Target wedges. Ride ’til they die.

Mind Games

I like to keep things extremely simple and extremely streamlined when rocking the high-waisted, almost-booty shorts (of which I obviously bought two pairs, denim and white). On the left is a J.Crew cotton tank top and Lands’ End Canvas wedges, and on the right is a J.Crew cotton tee and H&M wedges (recently seen here). The Heidi braids, of course, are the perfect subversive foil.

All told, I feel like a camp counselor on the set of “Wet Hot American Summer” in these get-ups – that’s a good thing.
