LF for Tote Magazine

I have a lot of opinions when it comes to choosing a career path, or a major, or just feeling like you’re on the right path… so when Shelby, the editor of Tote - a magazine for college girls – hit me up for an interview, I did not hesitate to say yes. If you asked me what I would be doing when I graduated from college, there is absolutely no way in hell I would give you an answer that reflects today’s truth.

Please click here to enjoy the latest back-to-school issue. I’m so happy with how the piece turned out, and very thankful to be asked to grace the cover.

Cherry Bomb

A late summer infusion of inspiration.

Last weekend, some of my  pals from college came for a visit. They were hollering for some good DC shopping, so we swung by Current Boutique on 14th Street. In the sale racks, I found this cotton dress in my ideal shape: a halter to show off the shoulders, some definition on the chest, and a high waisted silhouette falling into a flattering swingy skirt. The best part, nonetheless, is the cutout in the back, which makes me feel thrillingly, if slightly, exposed.

The feminine shape of the dress offsets a pair of chunky Kork-Ease sandals (similar to these) I recently uncovered in the clearance section at Nordstrom Rack while home in Michigan. Honestly, I’m tired of summer sandals that aren’t supportive (is this what adulthood feels like?), and these puppies may be  the most ergonomic of the pack. In my favorite color – a bright tomato red – they’ve been elevating my summer go-to dresses all month.

Lastly, the good people at Kate Spade sent me this “Love Is In the Air” tote earlier this summer. No doubt, there is a lot of love in this air ’round here.

Hope you’re enjoying these dog days as much as I am – September ain’t here yet.

The Politics of Pretty: AM to PM

Hi, remember me!? (I missed you.)

Although I  never draw my face here on My Closet in Sketches, I obviously still think about what it looks like in the real world. I was thrilled when Kara, of the blog Politics of Pretty, asked to feature me in her regular series AM to PM. When it comes to presenting an image of ourselves to others, beauty is as seminal as fashion – preach! – and I really do consider that every time I step up to the getting-ready-plate. Head on over to Politics of Pretty and check out the piece!

And it’s good to be back.

It’s that time of year – when me and the fam head “Up North” (as we Michiganders like to say) for a few weeks of sun-filled, cell phone-less bliss.

My office MVP, Jill, will be manning the LF Enterprises ship while I’m away, and I wanna keep that girl busy! SO, mosey on over to the shop and enter code TAKEAVACATION for 10% your entire order. Do it now!

Check ya on the flip side,

Boss Ladies

There are some changes a’foot at the offices of My Closet in Sketches…

Excitingly, the My Closet in Sketches official SHOP is officially OPEN FOR BUSINESS. It’s been a long time coming! PLEASE let me know if you have any problems browsing, or if you want to see any particular favorite past sketches in print, or if you just want to say hay, glad to see you’re finally selling out! Just kidding. My goal is that the store will be constantly evolving, and that new prints and ideas will be churned out on a regular basis.

Secondly, please join me in welcoming my first official employee, Jill! (How cute is her outfit from her first day?) She’ll be helping me man the shop, in addition to creating a more robust and stylish online presence. (I’ll still be in charge of the drawing board, thankyouverymuch.) Swing by the new Closet Sketches Pinterest page and say hi, and stay tuned for more Sketchy online updates!

Love always,
