My Closet in Sketches was born after hours of playing “The Closet Game” with my most fashionable roommate— we raid one another’s wardrobes and dream up (mostly awesome) outfits from the depths of our stashes. Thusly, we devised the buzz word, “dig”, to refer to that one element that takes your outfit to the next level. Say, “you’re digging with those new shades,” or, “those crazy-ass wedges are the dig.”
I’ve been sketching clothes on the margins of my notebooks since I could hold a pencil; naming outfits ever since my best friend labeled a gauzy shirt and scarf combo “bedouin chic” before a trip to the Israeli deserts; digging through sale racks at bargain stores and thrift shops with my mother before I ever wore adult sizes. Figured, years of “practice” could be used to tell the tales of my ever-expanding closet.
