About

My Closet in Sketches was born after hours of playing “The Closet Game” with my most fashionable roommate— we raid one another’s wardrobes and dream up (mostly awesome) outfits from the depths of our stashes. Thusly, we devised the buzz word, “dig”, to refer to that one element that takes your outfit to the next level. Say, “you’re digging with those new shades,” or, “those crazy-ass wedges are the dig.”

I’ve been sketching clothes on the margins of my notebooks since I could hold a pencil; naming outfits ever since my best friend labeled a gauzy shirt and scarf combo “bedouin chic” before a trip to the Israeli deserts; digging through sale racks at bargain stores and thrift shops with my mother before I ever wore adult sizes. Figured, years of “practice” could be used to tell the tales of my ever-expanding closet.

    Dear Lauren,

Over here in Ghana, I have loved keeping up with your illustrations, and cloth ‘meditations’. I’m so glad you are doing what you love, and getting support to keep this and your other creative pursuits going!

Wow your site is amazing i just spent the last few hours admiring your sketches and being inspired by your illustrations. I teach fashion design in New Zealand to secondary school students and cant wait to let my students know about your blog so they too can be inspired to present their drawings more creatively. Thanks :)

Lauren, although we are a generation or two apart in age, your presentation of your style. vision, and fantastic
attitude has made me a loyal follower.

Stay true to your sense of self and never allow anyone the opportunity to knock you from your pedestal that you have so rightly earned as your place of honor to grace and design it as your own!

As I tell my daughter, the world is so desparately calling out for more strong and gifted women like yourself!

Thank you for allowing me to be one of your supporters on your creative journey!
